This week, I watched and learned some additional information about Accessible Design for learning environments. I mainly see the videos below:
The Inclusive Design course on the Coursera platform helped me review my knowledge about inclusive, especially accessible, design.
In the second week, there were four videos about how to ensure our text-based materials and also powerpoints are accessible. In sum, the Microsoft Office platform provides a very fundamental Accessibility Checker in the Files menu. I added the following image to show how to evaluate the accessibility of Microsoft Documents.
In the next step, I watched a video describing complex images and diagrams for people who have accesibility issues. In that video, I realised understanding and then explaining each part of a complex structure can be helpful for people who need it and at the same time, it might be helpful for my exam preparations such as IELTS, GRE, TOEFL, etc.
And as the last step, I watched a video on the additional resources for Accesibility. The online resources are provided by Portland Community College (https://www.pcc.edu/instructional-support/accessibility/onlinecourseaccessibility/). I also found another useful web tool called WAVE Evaluation Tool to check the accesibility issues of webpages (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/wave-evaluation-tool/jbbplnpkjmmeebjpijfedlgcdilocofh).
In summary, I found this week's topic quite useful as my profession is teaching and so I need to create learning materials for my students. Furthermore, providing accessible and inclusive learning materials is crucial more than ever in teaching as Inclusive Learning is getting more important over time. From my perspective, the main role of using technology in teaching is to enhance our learning processes and materials for not just one type of learner but everyone. therefore, I am sure that I am going to be more aware and proactive in my online and f2t classes to reach all learners via inclusive and accessible practices.
